My name is Shabnam Akrami, and I am a dedicated professional, a proud mother, and a passionate advocate for the values that make our communities thrive. Alongside my husband, Shahab, and our two wonderful boys, Elliot (7) and Dawin (6), we share our home with our beloved dog, Luna.
With over 20 years of experience in immigration law, I am currently the Managing Partner of Akrami & Associates, an award-winning immigration law firm recognized for excellence and client care
I have been honored with the Top Choice Award for Top Immigration Services in Mississauga in 2017 and 2018, and in 2024, Manage HR Magazine named us the Top Canadian Immigration Firm. Additionally, I was recognized as one of the Most Inspiring Business Women of 2024 by CXO Outlook Global Edition.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Law & Society from York University and multiple certifications in Court and Tribunal Administration. As a certified Immigration Consultant through the Immigration Consultant of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC), I bring both expertise and a strong ethical foundation to my work.
In addition to my legal background, I served as Director at the London Language Institute, where I focused on building strong, inclusive learning environments and collaborating with key community stakeholders.
My recently published book, Balancing Act: Immigration Policies and Economic Realities, reflects my commitment to advocating for responsible, inclusive immigration policies that benefit both newcomers and our economy. Immigration is more than a career for me; it’s a way to contribute to Canada’s success by supporting individuals and families in creating a better life here, while still putting Canada first!
As a candidate, my vision includes making Mississauga Centre a place where affordability, infrastructure, and opportunities are accessible to all. I believe in:
tackling issues like housing, grocery prices, and everyday essentials so families can thrive without financial stress.
focusing on smart, sustainable growth to enhance our communities.
I am running because, like you, I feel the frustrations that many of us in Mississauga experience every day. I am one of you—a business owner, a parent, and a community member who sees the challenges we face firsthand. I shop at our grocery stores, navigate the rising cost of living, rely on our local transportation, and feel the impact of policies that don’t always seem to serve the people they’re meant to.
I’m not running for personal accomplishment or to add a checkmark to my resume. I’m here because I believe in being the change I want to see in our community and our country. The rapid rise in the cost of living, the lack of coordinated planning for immigration, and the gaps in infrastructure have all fueled my desire to step forward as someone who understands these issues personally.
We need someone who will listen, act, and put Mississauga’s needs front and center. I am committed to being that voice and working tirelessly to ensure Mississauga thrives. I am running because I believe we can improve this community—our community—and create a future that works for all of us.
With your support, I aim to bring forward a vision for Mississauga Centre that is grounded in values, transparency, and a commitment to building a strong, equitable future for all families. I am here to serve our community and create a lasting impact that reflects the best of Mississauga Centre. Thank you for considering me as your voice and your representative.
